Metamorphosis (Franz Kafka) is an experimental book.
A conclusion was made that Gregor Samsa was a bug even before he physically became one. He was pressured with piles of bureaucracy in which there was no possibility for being unique, special or creative.
The book is folded in a black box that symbolizes the period in which the book was written. When the box opens, a long sheet of paper with text and quotes starts pouring out of it.
Paper is soft and crumpled, because its intent is to symbolize the spinelessness of Gregor Samsa. The emphasized quotations symbolize the moments in which Gregor decides to take the initiative.
